I’ve worked in three contract roles at the Government Digital Service. I’m proud of the part I played in helping the award winning GOV.UK site come to life

Back when GOV.UK was just an idea, I was part of a small group that met in a south London pub and talked about what the site could be. I sketched a few thoughts and it’s good to see that they were not far off.

Later I joined GDS to help the first government departments close their old websites and join GOV.UK. They were exciting times, but the stakes were high. We only had a few months to do the work and the result had to be more user friendly than the old.

The first two departments I teamed up with – Department of Transport and the Ministry of Defence – went well. We soon learned what worked and didn’t, and that experience paid dividends for the rest.

GDS issues ‘mission patches’ when major pieces of work complete, and our team received several that year.

I’d worked in agile teams and run engagement style jobs before, but it was great to team up with such a talented bunch. Even better, I got a video send off from Mike Bracken, the head of GDS.

How I can help you

  • Running complex transition projects
  • Engagement with senior stakeholders
  • Setting up and running agile teams
